Port Trireme

Port Trireme is located on the island of Mozia off the coast of Sicily. The program, inspired by an typology of Pheonecian vessels, is a camp designed for teenage children to learn the ancient art of boat-making. The proposal aims to respect and acknowledge the site’s rich history and culture by weaving into the site’s fabric and around the pre-existing landscape. The structure explores temporality through time designed to age with consideration for the eventual vegetative overgrowth. The intention is that over time, the structure will be covered with plants seamlessly flowing back into the landscape. This connects the site back to the history of Mozia exploring how the building will one day become a ruin.
